Our Pastoral Staff

Lead Pastor

Michael Turner is lead pastor here at Jonesboro First Baptist. He was called to serve in May of 2014. Mike was born in McComb County, Michigan, but soon moved with family to Georgia. He was adopted before the age of two, and he grew up in Lee County, Alabama where he attended Beulah Baptist and Blanton Baptist Church. Blanton Baptist is where he received his license and ordination into the ministry.
Mike has served as a Hospice chaplain and youth pastor while living in the Dothan, Alabama area. He served as bi-vocational pastor and High School Bible teacher in Madison County, Florida, and he has served other Alabama churches as interim and full-time pastor.
He is passionate about making disciples and being a pastor.
Education: Mike began attending The Baptist College of Florida in January 1997.  He graduated BCF in December 2000 with a BA in Theology. Mike began working on his Masters degree in 2010 at a local school but felt Liberty University was a better option online, in order to better serve the local church.  He finished with a Master of Divinity in Professional Ministries from their Baptist Theological Seminary.
Spouse and Family: His wife Joanna was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia where her dad served as Music Minister for 40 plus years. Mike and Joanna met at BCF in January 1998 and married on August 1st that same year. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Counseling from Liberty University. She is a committed follower of Christ, a loving wife and resourceful mother, and she is active in several ministries of the church. She graduated from Liberty University in 2014 with her Master of Teaching degree in Special Needs, which is her vocational calling.  Joanna seeks to help teenagers in the church and community through loving advice and guidance counseling. Mike and Joanna have three active children. Nolee, Camille and Silas enjoy being a part of the family of God at Jonesboro First Baptist.
Hobbies: Mike enjoys fishing and golfing with his son.  He loves to watch one daughter on the softball field and the other on drama stage, but the best is going on daddy-daughter dates.  He enjoys sports with football being the best. He is an enthusiastic Alabama Crimson Tide fan, however he is his wife’s biggest fan more than anything and time with her is crucial to a good family and good ministry.
“I am truly blessed to shepherd such a loving and God honoring group of believers. I am excited at what God is doing here at Jonesboro. I approach each service with great anticipation because the Spirit of God is truly felt each time. Will you come be a part of His movement here?”
